Rights of
common-law partners
Representation of Common-Law Partners

When the shared life of unmarried partners comes to an end, it can raise numerous questions. Common-law partners do not have the same rights as married spouses.
Indeed, there is no possibility for common-law partners to obtain spousal support for an ex-partner, and a common-law union does not result in the creation of a family patrimony.

However, if certain assets are co-owned between the parties, such as a family home, it can be divided between the partners according to the general rules of civil law.
At all stages of the case, there is always the possibility of reaching an agreement between the partners and thus amicably settling the separation case, whether in court or out of court.
